Abstract

This article explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on academic assessment in higher education, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges of this technological integration. AI has the potential to significantly transform traditional assessment methods, offering a more personalized and efficient approach. Through adaptive assessment systems and real-time feedback, AI can enhance the accuracy of assessments and promote more effective learning. However, the implementation of AI in academic assessments is not without challenges, including ethical issues such as algorithm transparency and student data protection. Additionally, the need for adequate technological infrastructure and educator training are critical factors for successful integration. Educational policies also play a vital role, providing clear guidelines to ensure that AI is used equitably and inclusively. This study adopts a qualitative approach, based on a bibliographic review, to analyze the existing literature on the subject, identifying gaps and suggesting directions for future research. Interdisciplinary collaboration among educators, technologists, and policymakers is highlighted as essential for developing effective solutions. It concludes that although AI offers significant promises for academic assessment, its implementation requires a careful and responsible approach.
