Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurological condition characterized by difficulties in social communication, social interaction, and repetitive behavior patterns. While traditional therapeutic options for ASD are widely used, interest in CBD as an alternative therapy has grown significantly due to its anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective properties. This article aimed to conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature, exploring studies on the effects of CBD on ASD. The systematic literature review took place between September and November 2024, through searches in the PubMed and LILACS databases using the descriptors: “autism”; “cannabidiol” and “cannabis” duly registered in the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS), by crossing the terms with the Boolean operator AND. The inclusion criteria were studies from the last five years in full texts, while the exclusion criteria were discarding by title or abstract studies that did not understand the research objective, as well as duplicate articles. Based on the literature review, it is understood that ASD has several complex issues, associated with communication and cognitive deficits, and there may be difficulties in its treatment with only the pharmacological medication already used. Thus, pure CBD, when administered in low doses, is understood as a safe and effective source for treating the main symptoms that affect individuals with autism. This research can also contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the role of CBD in the treatment of ASD, providing guidance for health professionals in the field of autism in general.
