Abstract

The symptoms that persist in various human systems after a case (or probable case) of Covid-19 - whether mild, asymptomatic or severe - have been given the name Post-Covid-19 Syndrome or Long-Covid. The main objective of this article was to elucidate the correlation between the chronicity of Covid-19 and the damage to neurocognitive processing perceived in individuals once affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, highlighting its mechanisms of invasion of the Central Nervous System (CNS), the manifestation of long-term sequelae in it and the possibilities of mitigating these symptoms. The methodology for this consisted of an Integrative Literature Review by manual search of scientific articles published in the Pubmed and SCOPUS digital platforms, from 2020 to 2024, in English. The study demonstrated inflammation, damage to endothelial cells and direct axonal transport as the main modes of the viral invasion into the CNS, in addition to an ambiguous profile of manifestations and antioxidants as a therapeutic alternative. Finally, the importance of continuous research to standardize the chronic picture of the disease and the implementation of better therapeutic alternatives, whether through viral invasiveness processes or not, is highlighted.
