Phenol-based peels are widely used as an effective dermatological treatment to address deeper skin conditions such as scars and areas of hyperpigmentation. This study aims to investigate and analyze its toxicity and other health complications. Phenol, an organic compound with properties that promote skin exfoliation, can be extremely toxic when absorbed in high amounts or applied to large areas of the skin. The risks associated with the improper use of phenol peels include symptoms of intoxication, such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, and, in more severe cases, kidney failure and central nervous system impairment. Prolonged exposure to phenol may also lead to mucosal irritation and severe allergic reactions. The methodology was based on clinical cases discussed in several previous scientific articles, emphasizing that phenol toxicity is primarily linked to its application in high concentrations or improper use, highlighting the importance of adhering to safe and rigorous practices during the procedure. To minimize risks, it is essential for dermatology professionals to follow strict safety protocols and comply with established recommendations for the use of phenol peels. The conclusion of this article underscores that raising awareness about the risks and fostering continuous education are crucial to ensuring both patient safety and treatment success.
