Abstract

The influence of international trade on emerging economies has its drawbacks. These economies are often exposed to a variety of risks when participating in global markets, including exchange rate fluctuations, commodity price volatility and political instability. Therefore, analyzing the risks and opportunities of foreign trade is essential to create plans that maximize benefits and minimize vulnerabilities. The objective of this research was to investigate the risks and opportunities of foreign trade for emerging economies, identifying the main challenges and strategies that can be adopted to maximize benefits and mitigate adverse impacts in the context of international trade. The selection of this topic is justified by the importance of emerging economies in the world economy and the demand for a detailed assessment of the obstacles and opportunities that these nations encounter in the context of international trade. In recent decades, emerging economies have shown solid performance, acting as drivers of economic growth and contributing significantly to increased world trade. In terms of methodology, it was an exploratory and comparative bibliographic review through qualitative research focusing on works from the last 10 years (2014-2024). In a complementary way, documentary bases were used focusing on works from the last decade. As a result, it highlighted the importance of a balanced approach that considers both risks and opportunities, and offers practical recommendations for policies that can support the continued development and successful integration of emerging economies into global trade. It was also concluded that the integration of sustainable practices and the promotion of innovation and diversification are required to ensure that these economies can maximize their potential and face the challenges of foreign trade with confidence and effectiveness.
