NURSING INTERVENTIONS IN EARLY DETECTION OF POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a depressive disorder that can occur after childbirth, presenting symptoms such as intense sadness, low energy and sleep changes, which affects between 11% and 20% of women, and can negatively impact the mother bond. -baby, child development and mother's mental health, being associated with risk factors such as sleep deprivation, hormonal changes and inadequate social support. This literary review study aims to highlight the importance of nursing's role in the early identification of PPD, emphasizing the need for screening during prenatal and postpartum periods, using scales such as the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) . Furthermore, it mentions the benefits of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) in managing the condition. It is concluded that continuous training of nurses is necessary to recognize signs and symptoms of PPD and implement effective interventions, improving maternal health outcomes. The integration of individual and collective approaches in nursing practices can significantly contribute to the prevention and management of postpartum depression.
