Introduction: There are various types of communication in their many forms, with the most common being verbal, non-verbal, and written. Verbal communication is carried out through words, which can be in written form as well as spoken, and it must be clear for the other person to understand. Objective: To analyze the best communication practices between nurses and patients, aiming to promote patient safety and improve the quality of care. Methodology: This is a descriptive bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, analyzing scientific literature related to the research object. Analysis and discussion of results: It is essential to find a tool that improves communication during shift changes, allowing for the effective dissemination of information about patients, ongoing treatments, administered medications, their health status, test results, and other aspects that affect patient safety and continuity of care. Conclusion: Effective communication contributes to patient satisfaction, as they feel heard and valued, which can lead to greater adherence to treatment and better health outcomes. Creating a collaborative work environment where open and honest communication is encouraged is crucial for the success of these practices.
