The region of Porto Seguro, located on the southern coast of the state of Bahia, holds great historical significance for Brazil, being the site where Pedro Álvares Cabral's fleet first landed, a pivotal moment in the beginning of Portuguese colonization and the formation of the country. This article aims to present the archaeological potential of the coastal areas of the region, focusing on interventive archaeological methods applied in the context of environmental licensing. We highlight the relevance of the coastal archaeological sites already identified, which require further in-depth investigations. Additionally, we discuss the archaeological methodology in coastal environments, emphasizing the identification and analysis of these sites, contributing to the enhancement of knowledge about the coastal and maritime archaeological heritage of the region.
