The peripartum period involves a series of physiological changes, intensifying the occurrence of uterine disorders, such as metritis and puerperal endometritis. These diseases arise as a result of the interaction of extrinsic and intrinsic factors, and have a multifactorial etiology. At the pathological level, they are categorized according to the uterine layers affected, with metritis understood as a uterine infection that affects all layers of the uterus and endometritis defined as inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. The purpose of this review is to survey bibliographic studies on the disease, elucidating the etiological aspects, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention methods for each disease. Given the incidence of these reproductive diseases in herds and the consequences directly caused in production and reproduction, the work aims to contribute to the study and recognition of uterine disorders, through the detailing and differentiation of the particularities present in each disease.
