Abstract

This research aims to investigate the influence of the media on the jury trial, a topic of great relevance in the field of criminal law and criminal procedure. The jury trial, a legal institution that goes back to the roots of Western democracy, has as its fundamental principle the guarantee of a fair and impartial trial by the accused's peers. However, in a social context where the media exerts specific power in shaping opinions and perceptions, the impartiality of the jury can be significantly compromised. The bibliographies analyzed in this research focused mainly on the works of Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni and Aury Lopes Júnior, two renowned jurists who address in depth the influence of the media on the criminal justice system. Zaffaroni, in his studies on media criminology, explores how sensationalist coverage and manipulation of public opinion can distort the reality of facts and negatively influence judicial processes. On the other hand, Aury Lopes Júnior focuses specifically on the influence of the media on the jury, discussing the phenomenon of media mimicry, where the intense and continuous exposure of the media generates psychic contamination in jurors, compromising the impartiality and justice of the judges. verdicts.
