Youth and Adult Education (EJA) represents one of the most important pillars of education, and as a right guaranteed by the Federal Constitution and its own legislation, it is extremely important that the modality fulfills its duties and assumes the educational commitment to society. However, since its emergence, the EJA faces challenges that compromise its mission, and the school dropout of this group is one of the biggest mishaps faced. Due to this reality, the present work aims to discuss the reasons that can lead to the evasion of students and measures that can be adopted to combat it, for this, initiatives already adopted by other countries are observed and what the international community says about it. In order to bring more coherence and foundation to the ideas presented, a case study was carried out in an EJA school in the city of Feira de Santana, carrying out a diagnostic analysis to better align theory and practice with regard to this matter. The case study took place through a questionnaire to the students of the EJA and interview with the teachers of the modality, and the results obtained demonstrate how a reform in Youth and Adult Education is not only demanded as it configures a social need that only has to bring benefits to all.
