This study makes an objective analysis of public education policies, their relationship with and impact on teaching and learning in riverside and indigenous communities in the Amazon. The research is bibliographical in nature, based on a comprehensive review of the literature, including books, scientific articles and official documents dealing with education in the Amazon region. The methodology used made it possible to identify gaps and advances in the policies implemented, as well as the residents' own perception of the quality and effectiveness of educational actions. The results indicate that, despite government efforts, there are a number of obstacles that compromise the full realisation of the right to education for these communities, such as the lack of adequate infrastructure, the scarcity of contextualised teaching resources and the lack of trained professionals. The conclusion is that there must be a greater commitment on the part of the authorities to develop public policies that respect the cultural and territorial specificities of the riverside and indigenous populations, promoting inclusive, quality education that contributes to the sustainable development and cultural preservation of the Amazon.
