This research examines the remission of sentence through work and study in the Brazilian prison context, focusing on the resocialization of prisoners and the prevention of criminal relapses. The approach adopted is qualitative, based on literary review and analysis of the jurisprudence of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). The study is based on renowned theories in the area of Criminal Law. The methodology adopted involves a qualitative approach, with literary review and analysis of the jurisprudence of the STJ. The work highlights the evolution of sentence remission options, including external office and compliance with home regime. The research emphasizes the importance of support for the reintegration of ex-prisoners into society and the need for adaptation of the prison system to current conditions. It is concluded that the remission of the sentence through work and study, together with support for reintegration, are crucial for the promotion of a more equitable and efficient prison system.
