Introduction: Equine therapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other specific needs, using horses as therapeutic tools. This study aims to analyze the benefits and challenges associated with equine therapy, providing insights for healthcare professionals and researchers. Objectives: Discuss the benefits of Hippotherapy for the development of psychomotricity in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Methodology: The methodology included a systematic review of recent studies on hippotherapy and psychomotor development in children with ASD and specific needs, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to identify relevant trends. Results: The literature review highlighted the benefits of hippotherapy, including improvements in children's motor coordination, social interaction, behavior and emotional well-being. Challenges were identified, such as the need for trained professionals and the availability of adequate resources. Equine therapy shows promise as a complementary therapeutic intervention, but more studies are needed to understand its mechanisms of action and optimize its clinical application. Considerations regarding individualization of treatment and contraindications were highlighted as crucial aspects in clinical practice. Conclusion: Hippotherapy emerges as a promising therapeutic intervention for children with ASD and specific needs, promoting tangible benefits in psychomotor, social and emotional development. Despite challenges, such as the need for qualified professionals and adequate resources, a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach can maximize results.
