THE POPULAR PHARMACY PROGRAM AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN PRIMARY HEALTH CARE

Pharmaceutical support in the SUS is a set of measures that aim to guarantee access, quality and rational use of medicines by Brazilian citizens. That is, availability of medicines, their selection, acquisition, storage and distribution; monitor consumption with the aim of guaranteeing free and reasonable access to medicines for the population. AF plays a driving role in the organization of health systems, working between departments and contributing to strengthening relationships with organizations and the population (PROVIN et al., 2010). Primary Care Pharmacists (FABs) are specialists and should be integrated into healthcare networks, including pharmaceutical services. In this area of help, its role is to guarantee the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of drug use at an individual and population level. Pharmaceutical activities will be evaluated, and a specialist will guide the patient on the correct method of application. Prevent medication administration, self-medication and promote adherence to treatment. Contribute to the development of health education programs, monitoring of side effects and formulation of pharmaceutical policy in health systems. One of the main objectives of the Brazilian Popular Pharmacy Program is to expand access to basic and essential medicines for the population and reduce the impact of medicine prices on the family budget. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the percentage of educational institutions in Brazil show that low-income families meet the quota; two thirds of medical expenses are spent on purchasing medicines. The Department of Health is working with state and local health offices in an ongoing effort to increase resources.
