Children need to be stimulated from the first months of life. When listening to a story, the baby will later turn this habit into a spontaneous action in his life. Thus, the stories heard, told and retold will form the basis for the process of learning to write. A repertoire enriched by reading becomes fertile ground for the assimilation of writing, which comes from cognitive development that encompasses symbols and meanings, being the foundation for building the teaching and learning process. The teacher, in the classroom, needs to create opportunities to promote effective teaching, encouraging students potential. The objective of this article is to analyze the importance of reading for improving writing in Elementary School I. In this bibliographical research it was possible to highlight situations that cause such difficulties, thus identifying that the lack of reading habit, from an early age age, reflects the lack of socioeconomic conditions of the parents together with their high illiteracy rate.
