This study investigated the impact of Virtual Reality (VR) on higher education, focusing on how this technology can transform the educational experience. The central problem addressed was the need to integrate immersive technologies into teaching to improve student engagement and learning. The general objective was to evaluate the potential and challenges of implementing VR in the educational context, identifying benefiting areas of knowledge and effective strategies for its adoption. The methodology employed was based on a literature review, analyzing quantitative and qualitative empirical studies to explore the current and potential use of VR in higher education. The results indicated that VR promotes a significant increase in student engagement, understanding and retention of knowledge, in addition to facilitating inclusion and accessibility. Analysis of the evidence compared VR with traditional teaching methods, revealing its unique ability to provide immersive and interactive educational experiences. Final considerations highlighted VR as a promising educational tool, capable of complementing and revolutionizing pedagogical practices in higher education.
