This academic text discusses the responsibility that the school has in offering an education that brings autonomy to citizens so that they promote themselves as integral agents of society, capable of perceiving themselves as responsible for their own evolution within a given context. It recognizes that education can enhance the transformation of the social field as long as it invests in public policies aimed at changes in current pedagogical practices so that these bring satisfactory results with regard to students' ability to understand and interpret written language. As subsidies to sustain the discussions, renowned theorists on the subject were cited. Therefore, it was understood that education will not completely eliminate social ills, but will make a very valuable contribution to this process, but tireless struggles to guarantee quality in education for marginalized social classes are indispensable.
