Anxiety and depression are increasingly common mental health conditions that affect a large part of the world's population. In this context, studies have demonstrated that nutrition plays an important role in both the prevention and treatment of these conditions. This article's main objective is to analyze the role of the nutritionist in the treatment of anxiety and depression, through a systematic review of the available literature on the theme. The systematic review revealed that an unbalanced diet deficient in essential nutrients is associated with a greater risk of developing anxiety and depression. On the other hand, adopting a balanced and appropriate diet can reduce the symptoms of these conditions and improve patients' quality of life. The nutritionist plays a fundamental role in this process, providing specific guidance on the appropriate diet for each individual. Nutrients such as omega-3, B vitamins, zinc, magnesium and tryptophan stand out, which play an important role in regulating mood and the functioning of the nervous system. Furthermore, the nutritionist can use techniques such as psychoeducation, which involves providing information about foods and their relationship with mental health, and nutritional counseling, which helps the patient to establish goals and adopt healthy eating habits. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of nutritionists in the treatment of anxiety and depression, providing appropriate nutritional guidelines for patients. A balanced, nutrient-rich diet can play a significant role in improving the symptoms of these conditions, as well as preventing their onset.
