Plays and recreational games are used as strategic resources to contribute to the learning process, making the results in the context of teaching more satisfactory, in addition to providing the cognitive, social and motor development of children. The research had as general objective: to understand the relevance of the use of games and games for the motor development of children. The methodology used was a literary review, through which 16 studies were obtained that met the proposed objectives and the guiding question. The results achieved showed the relevance of recreational practices for a more effective learning, contributing to the establishment of a more dynamic and attractive teaching environment for children. From the reviewed literary works, it was possible to conclude that playfulness is used as an instrument aimed at optimizing the teaching-learning process of Early Childhood Education, collaborating with the development of students' emotional, cognitive, motor and relational skills.
