Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) is a pedagogical approach aimed at transforming educational practices by promoting active and meaningful learning. This study investigated the impact of investigative activities in science teaching at Escola Municipal Aldebarã, located in Açailândia-MA, focusing on the final years of elementary school. Five investigative lessons were conducted on topics such as the respiratory system, asexual reproduction, chemical reactions, and sustainability, employing experimental practices and theoretical discussions. The qualitative research analyzed the conceptual evolution and engagement of students through questionnaires, reports, and photographic records. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ scientific conceptions, evidenced by clearer responses and greater connections to everyday life. Furthermore, an increase in students’ interest and motivation was observed, reinforcing the potential of IBSE as a pedagogical strategy. This study concludes that investigative activities contribute to the formation of critical citizens prepared to face contemporary challenges, highlighting the relevance of IBSE in basic education.
