APPLIED STATISTICS IN BASIC EDUCATION - A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

This article aims to present a study on the perception of teachers of different subjects in Basic Education in relation to the integration of statistical concepts and ideas in their classes. The theoretical basis is the work of authors who investigate Statistics Education, with Carmen Batanero as the main reference. This study analyzes the results of interviews conducted with 32 educators working in Basic Education in a public school in Paraíba. The arguments presented by the teachers were examined using Textual Discourse Analysis. The process resulted in three emerging categories: statistics and the use of graphs; statistics and data analysis; and students as protagonists. The research concludes by positively highlighting that most of the interviewees use statistical elements in their lessons, although only descriptive statistics was mentioned, which suggests that inferential statistics is relegated to a secondary level in their teaching practices.
