EXPERIENCE REPORT IN THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF ACRE

Abstract

This article presents an experience report of the mandatory supervised internship carried out by a student of the Library Science course at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in a public library in the state of Acre. Based on the experience developed at the Adonay Barbosa dos Santos State Public Library, the objective was to report the activities developed, the challenges faced and the strategies adopted in the academic and professional context, with an emphasis on issues of inclusion and accessibility. The methodology adopted was qualitative, bibliographic and descriptive, structuring the narrative on two axes: the initial reception and the adversities overcome during the internship. The results reveal the importance of libraries as spaces for humanized training, highlighting the need for welcoming and inclusive environments for atypical people. The experience brings as a result the importance of the social role of libraries in promoting equity, access to information and valuing diversity within the Library.
