The general objective was to develop research on the creation of a landscaping project at the Governador Zacharias de Assunção State High School, located in the Guamá neighborhood of the city of Belém, aiming to assess the social benefits of designing a landscaping proposal. This proposal includes small-scale tree planting and the cultivation of ornamental and bioactive species. Specifically, the study aimed to: a) Identify the landscaping and vegetation coverage needs of the Governador Zacharias de Assunção State High School; b) Integrate landscaping and medicinal plant cultivation as a strategy for environmental education; c) Encourage scientific research among UNIFAMAZ students on the topic of "Architecture and Urbanism," as a way to promote teaching, research, and community engagement. The methodology included bibliographic research and a qualitative approach, involving field research with an inspection of the school’s open areas to develop the landscaping project. Visits were conducted to public institutions such as the State Department of Education (SEDUC), the State Department of Environment and Sustainability (SEMAS), and the Municipal Nursery of Belém. The school was selected due to its recognized need for support in incorporating landscaping into its surroundings, including small-scale tree planting and ornamental and medicinal plants. The significance of developing this proposal was justified by its potential to contribute to a landscaping project that offers technical elements and information for implementing effective vegetation coverage in the open areas of the school grounds. This contributes to improving environmental quality by reducing temperature, enhancing aesthetics, and cultivating medicinal plants that can support learning in the context of Environmental Education.
