SCHOOL GARDEN: A LIVING LABORATORY OF LEARNING, INCLUSION, AND SUSTAINABILITY AT DOM ANTÔNIO MALAN MUNICIPAL SCHOOL

Abstract

This article presents the experience of the school garden at the Antonio Malan Municipal School, located in the rural area of ​​Petrolina-PE, highlighting its contribution to environmental education, interdisciplinarity, inclusion, and student leadership. The project uses sustainable practices, such as the reuse of PET bottles in the organization of the garden beds, promoting environmental awareness and the reuse of solid waste. The activities are developed with the active participation of students, teachers, Specialized Educational Assistance (AEE), and the EcoEDAM group, focused on environmental actions and encouraging reading. The cultivation of vegetables and medicinal plants allows for the contextualization of curricular content, strengthening meaningful learning and interdisciplinary practices. Furthermore, the project contributes to the development of healthy eating habits, encouraging students to consume vegetables during harvest and distribution periods. It is observed that the school garden constitutes a space for civic education, sustainability, inclusion, and the appreciation of family farming.
