Abstract

Currently, creatine is one of the most used amino acids by practitioners of physical activities and gym goers who aim to improve performance by optimizing energy expenditure. That's because this substance restores ATP levels by donating a phosphate molecule to ADP in muscle tissue. However, despite its effectiveness in increasing strength, this substance has been widely debated in the scientific community, as there are reports that its association with possible kidney damage. Since the increase in the element in the body can lead to an increase in serum creatinine resulting from a non-enzymatic reaction than a creatine with a phosphocreatine. Thus, the objective of this literature review is to seek a correlation between injury to the renal parenchyma associated with the use of creatine.
