Abstract

This article proposes three categories of analysis to understand the role of film exhibition in Brasília: commercial cinemas, art cinemas, and film clubs. Based on bibliographic and documentary research, as well as interviews, it sought to highlight their particularities, strategies, and challenges in the context of democratizing geographical access. It concluded that geographical distance affects each exhibition model differently; of the three, film clubs are the most affected. Furthermore, the lack of coordination among members of the local exhibition sector and with the district government inhibits potential projects for the cultural democratization of cinema in the city, such as the construction and maintenance of public cinemas in the Federal District.
