This article analyzes the practice of Social Work in the field of mental health, specifically focused on chemical dependency. The study investigates the reception and mediation strategies carried out with users and their families, based on the logic of Psychosocial Rehabilitation. Through a theoretical review and analysis of case studies, it was discussed how the “turn and voice” of the chemical dependent reveals the complexity of family bonds, often marked by codependency or stigma. The results demonstrate that the role of the social worker is vital for the deconstruction of prejudice and for ensuring access to socio-assistance rights. It is concluded that the strengthening of the family support network, mediated by qualified listening and orientation groups, is the main success factor in maintaining health and social reintegration of the individual.
