Introduction: Dental complications in individuals with Down syndrome require comprehensive and humanized care, with the dental professional playing an important role in managing the oral alterations that affect this population. Objective: The general objective was to understand the responsibilities of dental professionals in providing humanized and comprehensive care to patients with Down syndrome. Materials and Methods: Qualitative bibliographic research. Updated studies on the topic were considered, including manuals from the Ministry of Health. Results: Dental professionals have specific responsibilities focused on the oral changes that occur in patients with Down syndrome. Family guidance, along with preventive and surgical care provided to these patients, combined with humanized care, can help overcome the barriers and challenges faced by dental professionals in ensuring comprehensive care. Conclusion: Dentists must be qualified to provide comprehensive and humanized care to patients with Down syndrome, considering that oral health needs are often insufficiently addressed in the professional’s workflow. Care based on humanization is one of the key strategies to ensure effective and resolutive assistance.
