Abstract

This article aims to discuss obesity in contemporary times from a narrative literature review study. Obesity can be defined, in a simplified way, as a disease characterized by the excessive accumulation of body fat, being a consequence of a positive energy balance and which has repercussions on health with a significant loss not only in the quality but also in the quantity of life. And, with the change in parameters in relation to the beauty profile, where the fullest were considered more beautiful and healthy, in the current situation they are considered obese or overweight, as well as sick, and these were replaced by slender and thin models. In this way, those who are considered non-standard suffer, in addition to Bullying, emotional and social problems, caused by the fact that they are not able to lose weight as expected.
