Abstract

Domestic and family violence against women was directly affected by the social isolation imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Several data released by organizations dedicated to the subject already indicated, at the beginning of the pandemic, the increase in this violence. In this context, the article seeks, through a brief literary review of authors who discuss the subject, to present the concept of domestic violence and understand its cycle, and then analyze the impact that the Coronavirus pandemic had on cases of violence. domestic violence practiced against women, as well as demonstrating what the main measures to confront and combat this violence were instituted during the pandemic period. The analyzed data were based on studies and surveys carried out by the Brazilian Public Security Forum, using descriptive and documentary research as a methodology, via deductive method, from the analysis of domestic violence against women in a general context to, after, treat of the theme within the social isolation resulting from the pandemic. As a result, it was observed that, with the imposition of social isolation, the cases of bodily injury, with in-person registration of the victims, showed an apparent reduction. On the other hand, the cases of femicide and female homicides showed an increase, given the situation of vulnerability generated by the longer time of contact between aggressor and victim. Finally, it was concluded that, although the pandemic has generated an increase in cases of domestic violence, it has provided an opportunity to advance in measures to combat it, through greater state action in the legislative sphere and in the implementation of public policies.
