Resumen

This article aimed to analyze the main factors associated with the development of anxiety and depression among university students, as well as their impacts on quality of life and academic performance. This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach, based on scientific studies published between 2020 and 2026 in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (VHL), PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. The findings revealed that university life presents several stressors, including academic overload, performance pressure, financial difficulties, adaptation to university life, and uncertainties regarding future careers. These factors significantly contribute to increased symptoms of anxiety and depression, affecting mental health, academic performance, and social relationships. Furthermore, psychological support strategies, mental health promotion programs, and strengthened social support networks were identified as important protective factors. It is concluded that institutional policies focused on students' mental health care are essential for promoting well-being and quality of life..
