Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiology that occurs when a woman is diagnosed with changes in glucose tolerance during pregnancy for the first time. The increase in blood glucose is exponential during the second trimester and stabilizes at the end of the third trimester of pregnancy. GDM is associated with adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes, such as excessive fetal growth and birth trauma, which often results in cesarean section, although these factors are not absolute indications of it. Thus, the presente study, throught the analysis of data collected from medical records at Fundação Hospitalar São Lucas, has as its main objective to determine the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with gestacional diabetes mellitus (GDM), seeking to analyze the outcome of childbirth due to some possible complications, looking for similarities that can clarify the prevalence of cesarean sections in them, to develop strategies for prenatal prevention and controlo f this pathology.
