Objective: Analyze the cases of flu syndrome and severe respiratory syndrome treated at a public hospital in the Federal District from March 2020 to April 2021. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study including patients notified and investigated by hospital epidemiological surveillance unit. Results and conclusions: In total, 4310 suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported, of these 1985 were confirmed and 1717 were hospitalized. There were a total of 188 deaths, which resulted in an hospital mortality of 10,95%. The most notified due to suspected COVID were young people, while the highest number of deaths was among the elderly. Deaths were more frequent among the black population, those with at least one comorbidity, with cardiovascular disease being the main one, and occurred predominantly in the ICU. The temporal distribution of cases showed two peaks in the incidence of cases and deaths, on 08/2020 and 03/2021 respectively, with the second reaching the highest number of deaths.
