Abstract

This article presents a study on the overcrowding of the Brazilian Penitentiary System, seeking to demonstrate the immense attacks on dignity and human rights, both of people, as well as their families, system employees and society in general. Thus, through the exposure of data, the aim is to provoke a reflection on the part of the reader as to the real situation in which the citizens are facing in prison. As a study base for this work, legislation with reference to the subject was used, such as the Federal Constitution of 1988 and the Law of Penal Execution of Brazil, as well as bibliographic research that addresses the topic, publications in magazine articles, websites and others.
