Abstract

Introduction: Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disease that affects hemoglobin, the protein responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. This disease can affect pregnancy, increasing the risk of complications for the mother and fetus. Objective: To describe care for pregnant women with sickle cell anemia. Methodology: Integrative literature review, carried out in MEDLINE, LILACS and SciELO, through DeCS: Sickle Cell Anemia and Pregnancy. Results and Discussion: Health care for pregnant women with sickle cell anemia is extremely important to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy. It is essential that assistance is multidisciplinary and personalized, involving professionals from different areas, such as doctors, nurses, nutritionists and psychologists. This integrated approach allows for a complete evaluation of the pregnant woman and the early identification of complications, in addition to enabling an individualized and effective treatment. Final Considerations: Due to the complexity of being pregnant, a person affected by sickle cell anemia needs to properly carry out high-risk prenatal care, so that, in this way, nursing plays the role of monitoring, clarifying doubts and assisting the pregnant woman during the entire gestational period.
