Abstract

The principle of efficiency was raised to the status of a constitutional principle by Constitutional Amendment N. 19 in 1998. In this essay, the principle of efficiency will be studied in the contexto of the Evolution of Brazilian public administration and its express recognition in the Constitution of the Republic and Brazilian Administrative Law. The aplication of the principle of efficiency in the provisiono of public services can be the guiding thread for the elgitimization of the ruler before the citizens, endowing the State with responsive capability to meet the expectations of a complex Society such as Brazilian Society.
