This article starts from the answer to the following question: What is the importance of functional activities in early childhood education? The objective, developed from the experience of practicing the compulsory curriculum oriented to early childhood education, is to highlight the union between theory and practice. Guided by the historical-cultural perspective of the qualitative research approach, our research focuses on explaining child development according to Vygotsky, highlighting the key points of development, and we present the role of the teacher in this theoretical current and, finally, we present the answer the proposed question.
