Abstract

This article is a part of the research carried out in the academic master's degree of the first author, therefore, it is tapestry of data, since the study discusses in a broader way aspects that connect the Novo Zabelê Community with science teaching. We highlighted the teachers training, the Municipal School of Novo Zabelê establishment, and how this institution promotes dialogue between science education and the community to preserve and conserve the Serra da Capivara National Park, Piauí (PNSC). It is qualitative research in which the final result is more important, valuing its uniqueness, that is, considering the context and environment investigated. We used three research instruments in the data construction: Thematic Oral History (HOT), document analysis (AD), and semi-structured questionnaire, with a predominance of the HOT. Everything takes place at the Elzair Rodrigues de Oliveira School Unit, in Povoado Novo Zabelê, located around the Serra da Capivara National Park, a rural area of São Raimundo Nonato, southeast of Piauí. As a time frame, we took into account the 1998 year, when school activities started in the locality, until 2020, the year in which this research was implemented. The results led to the development of 03 analysis categories: Training of the teachers who teach/taught science at Escola do Novo Zabelê (1998-2020); Continuing Education of Science teachers at the Elzair Rodrigues de Oliveira School Unit, focusing on the local biodiversity; Use of the PNSC for Science Teaching by Science Teachers at the Elzair Rodrigues de Oliveira School Unit (São Raimundo Nonato - PI). The results reveal the need of greater attention to teachers training, especially in the Serra da Capivara Territory region. Besides that, it is noticeable an urgency of the Municipal Education Department and school management make students know, through scientific means, about the importance of the Unit of Conservation and how they can contribute to its preservation and maintenance.
