Later, the search for aesthetic and functional rehabilitation has been growing, usually for patients who have suffered bone loss in different proportions. Generally, individuals do not have enough bone, requiring the need for bone grafting so that protocols can be carried out through fixed prostheses and/or implants. The process of alveolar resorption that culminates in bone loss in both thickness and height is related to tooth extractions, neoplasms, developmental disorders, trauma, infections or physiological loss. Then arises the need to use biomaterials for the bone regeneration process. The objective of this literature review was to approach the types of bone grafts used in the jaw rehabilitation protocol, clarify grafting techniques, the advantages and disadvantages of each substitute, as well as the associated use of different biomaterials. Scientific articles in English and Portuguese published between (2015-2022) were selected from the following databases: Cochrane clinical trials registry (Cochrane Library), SciELO, medical publications (PubMed), Lilacs, books and theses. There is a range of materials on the market with their peculiarities and different therapies, however, there is no consensus in the presented literature on the best technique, association and type of graft.
