Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The role of the physiotherapist in vaginal delivery is not yet an established practice in contemporary times, and is not included in the public health system, however this professional has non-pharmacological resources to reduce discomfort throughout labor, his protocol is consists mainly of manual therapy and the adoption of vertical postures. OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to analyze the intervention of physiotherapy in vaginal labor, its therapeutic approaches and how they make the moment of delivery more comfortable for both the mother and the baby. METHOD: This research is a literature review carried out through the selection of articles found in SCIELO, LILACS and PUBMED, with a search that took place between September and October 2022. Quasi-experimental, cross-sectional studies were included in the research. and epidemiological studies published in Portuguese and English, literature review articles, published between 2016 and 2022. Dissertations and theses, abstracts, case studies or interventions were excluded from this research. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: When analyzing the articles found, we found convergences regarding the benefits of physiotherapy methods in better satisfaction at the time of delivery, shorter delivery time in addition to pain relief. Revealing that spontaneous and low-risk vaginal delivery, without drug intervention, is possible to be experienced in a comfortable way for both the parturient and the baby. CONCLUSION: By reading the studies, especially those that were not carried out in Brazil, it was possible to verify that the role of the physiotherapist in labor is not yet a well-established practice, even though he is a sufficiently qualified professional to collaborate through non-pharmacological techniques. for pain relief and for the parturient woman to relax.
