Abstract

Brazil is a major producer of animal protein, having the largest commercial cattle herd. The herd, mostly raised extensively, has a rustic Zebu character, and in a large part of the country, breeding animals suffer from postpartum anestrus. Artificial insemination (AI) has become one of the main reproductive biotechnologies with an economic impact on cattle production, enabling the genetic improvement of the herd, optimizing reproductive management, and being able to maximize profits. The objective of the work carried out is to raise the costs of an IATF and the costs of bulls in a property in the breeding season and compare the financial profitability, aiming at the calf produced and the added value and its weight at weaning. The methodology used is field research carried out with information from a beef cattle property, located in the rural area of the municipality of São Felipe do Oeste, in the interior of the state of Rondônia, which uses three reproductive managements, followed by bibliographical research comparing the observed data with previous studies. As a result, the study verified that despite the need for a greater initial investment in the production of calves with the TAI technique compared to the investments made for the season made only with bulls, the profit of the cattleman who produces the calf is in the sale of weaning or in fattening is greater, surpassing the initial investments. Thus, the study concludes that TAI generates greater profitability, whose recorded profit difference was R$34,800.00 on an average of 100 calves produced.
