This article aimed to analyze the importance of play in the teaching-learning process, through games and games in early childhood education. The research is bibliographic based on authors such as Vygotsky (1984), Piaget (1972), Kishimoto (1994), among others. The researched authors point out the use of games and games in early childhood education as important. The quality of opportunities offered to children through games and toys ensures that their potential and affectivity are in harmony. In play, their abilities are manifested and the teacher, observing them, can enrich their learning, providing appropriate interventions at the right time.
