Abstract

Nowadays, digital scanners bring more and more practicality to dentists. This article sought to compare models made from conventional molding versus digital molding, in order to discuss the best technique. A literature review was carried out through the Scielo, PubMED and Google Scholar databases, using the descriptors “molding”, “computer-assisted design” and “dentistry”, in addition to a bibliographic survey of a physical collection. Both techniques proved to be effective for molding, however the digital technique presented greater comfort and optimization of clinical time, but compared to conventional molding it has a much higher cost, which is its greatest harm. It is up to the dentist to decide which of the impression techniques best fit their reality, taking into account their clinical care.
