Anal atresia is a common birth defect in animals that often affects calves and piglets. There is usually little more than skin and subcutis remaining without perforation, and a satisfactory surgical opening is possible as long as the muscular sphincter and rectum are developed. This case report aimed to describe the surgical treatment protocol for anal atresia in a calf. The research examined a specific topic through two different methods: qualitative and quantitative. First, articles from the journals Lilacs, Scielo and Capes published from 2017 to 2022 were selected, focusing on the chosen theme. Then, the data were analyzed by qualitative analysis. The case study showed as a result that anal atresia is a congenital defect that can be easily corrected through surgical intervention without causing further damage to the animal's life, thus, if clinical care is administered, an early surgical intervention can occur, in addition to Furthermore, adequate pre, trans and postoperative care can lead to a satisfactory result for the animal. However, it is concluded that in some cases, the clinical condition of the animal makes it extremely difficult to assess the severity of its atresia, which makes it difficult to properly treat these cases, so a rapid diagnosis of the anomaly is essential.
