This article sought to review the literature on the benefits of low-level laser therapy and its effects on the postoperative period of third molar extraction. A systematic search was carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases, using the descriptors “third molar”; “laser therapy”; "healing"; where eighteen scientific articles were selected in English and Portuguese, using inclusion criteria, namely: articles published in the years 2010 to 2022, those that specifically addressed the use of low-level laser in the postoperative period of third molar extraction, as well as such as those dealing in a general way with the applicability of laser in dentistry. Therefore, it has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and tissue repair therapeutic effects, reducing pain and bringing comfort to the patient. However, for its effective use it is essential that the professional is properly trained in addition to having an investment since the laser has a high cost which is one of the limitations of its use.
