The psychologist has an important role in the monitoring of people who receive, accompany or provide important hospital care. In such a context, the Psychology professional offers complementary care, in partnership with a multidisciplinary team. In view of this, the accomplishment of the present work is justified by the need of those involved, whether patient, family or team, to receive attention and qualified listening, given the complexity of the subjective processes that involve such a process. Thus, this article aims to describe what palliative care is and how the multidisciplinary team acts in such a case, emphasizing the role of the psychologist working in palliative care. In addition, reflections will be made on the importance of family relationships in palliative care. For this purpose , the article was built through a narrative bibliographic research that was constituted through the analysis of literature found in books, magazines and scientific articles in which the subject is deeply discussed. With this, it is concluded that the psychologist is necessary in a multidisciplinary team helping patients and their families, even as the health professionals to deal with the diagnosis of terminality.
