The purpose of this article is to discuss literacy and numeracy. Both processes are part of the basis of the child's school life, and through them the student's integration and participation in the most diverse social practices takes place. The theoretical foundation of this article is based on the classic concepts of literacy and literacy by Carvalho (2005); Ferreiro (1998; 1999); Kleiman (2002); Soares (2008; 1998) and Teberosky (2000). Based on the theoretical-practical discussions of this study, the role of the teacher and the family is emphasized to guarantee a quality education for the student, which stimulates reading, learning and curiosity. It is argued that teachers should have a diverse approach to reading and literacy to work with children. The introduction of literacy in early childhood education has its benefits and responsibilities. Therefore, it is a great contribution to the student's literacy when he works on literacy with children in early childhood education. At this stage it is important to respect the importance of playing, so it is ideal to combine learning with play.
