This article aims to discuss the meaning of food as a pedagogical category in early childhood education. We justify the importance of the discussion by the fact that food is part of human culture and, therefore, should be considered as part of the systematic education of children at this stage of basic education. As a methodology, we opted for bibliographic research supported by the theory of cultural history. The objective is to propose the research from a critical perspective, so that, throughout the work, important points are raised that allow an adequate reflection on contemporary food and the importance of food and related thinking. as a culture that is taught to new generations.
