Abstract

The present work promotes the debate on territorial organization in São Miguel do Guamá from the urban changes in the Amazon from the second half of the 20th century, a period in which there were great processes of exploration and changes in the Amazonian urban structures. The changes made it possible for São Miguel do Guamá to become one of the largest ceramic centers in the North region, as a result of migratory factors and new interests in natural resources. These brief notes lead us to reflect on the form of territorial management in São Miguel do Guamá in order to meet the different interests in the territory and thus mitigate possible conflicts. For such a situation, it is understood the importance of analyzing the stages of socio-spatial transformations in the Amazon region, in order to develop proposals for territorial management that are inclusive.
